What makes growth so challenging? Throughout life we’ve become so attached to our comfort zones that we forget WE are the ones who built them therefore, WE have the power to tear them down or reframe them…
What’s stopping us from tearing down the walls and settling into a new paradigm? The need for security, consistency and stagnation. HUH? Stagnation?! Really? Yep. Let me explain.
Breaking out of the comfort zone requires a strong desire for change though deep down inside we feel resistance simply because the old place feels safe and fits like an old glove. It’s a stagnant place of being, not conducive to growth, keeping us suspended in a numbness to life. True, a comfort zone may not be comfortable at all. In fact, it may be conformably uncomfortable for many of you. Truth be told, regardless of how crappy it feels, we know it well and that gives us a strangely narcissistic perception of security. To break out of this means we have to not only explore a possible new realm of life experience, we now have to take a look inward to discover what’s really holding us back or driving us forward. It will feel as though we’ve opened Pandora’s Box!
It’s so much easier to ‘play it safe’ in our stuffy old box, isn’t it?
If you consider yourself to be a perfectionist, as I did for many years, you end up getting much less done in forward momentum because you’re stuck in ‘analysis paralysis’ more time than not. The pace at which you move is governed by the allowance you have to just be present in the moment. Instead, you’re focused on how each piece has to look, feel and fit, limited by your perception of what’s allowed by society. You’re fear of judgment and criticism separate you from reaching full potential because you are determined to make it ‘perfect’ from the beginning rather than giving space for an organic flow.
Beneath the surface, we all have some hidden aversion to change because it forces us to stretch and be malleable in the flow of life. If we allow change in the present moment, we may have to allow change again tomorrow and the next day and the next day…and what then will we have to hold on to?! How will we know what to trust in an ever-changing world?
The answer is to reframe the way we see ourselves. If you are reading this, you most likely have already heard the phrase ‘we are spiritual beings having a human experience’ but most likely you’re still finding new ways to explore the vastness of that truth with regards to its practical application in actual life experience. It goes like this: we cannot organize our life as organization is a constant. It’s a stagnant energy that is created when we see a part of life as a destination, not a journey. The solution is to see our life experience as an organism, ever-changing and divinely inspired. An organism is free-flowing, has room to grow and shape as needed, and breathes when we do.
Imagine how much easier your days would be if you gave yourself permission to expand into the guidance of your Higher Self each day with ease and grace. You’d find a more fluid grove within that realm as you’d be shifting daily instead of seeking comfort in a box. Your brain would be free to think without comparison, you heart would be free to love unconditionally and your soul would be free to explore all possibilities through you. There would be no need for a comfort zone, no need to hide and no need to seek solitude. By allowing your life to shift as an organism there would be no need for perfection, no desire for being like someone else and no fear of failure.
Choice is yours…stagnation or evolution?
